Free Online Courses for Credit

NPR‘s All Things Considered recently had a discussion on the topic of the availability of free online courses from institutions of higher education and how credits for course work towards a degree could be earned by students. The awarding of credit for subject matter competency, in which students demonstrate a level of competency of the subject, is an opportunity for educational institutions to be an assessor of subject competency and an advisor for students who are looking for the right set of free online courses that will provide them with the subject matter competencies to successfully earn higher education credits.
